The Importance of Mapping Out The Quickest Route to The Hospital

We can't always predict when we are going to have to go to the hospital. In the event of an emergency, you don't want to waste time mapping out the quickest route to the hospital of your choice. Nobody wants to think about having an emergency that results in a hospital visit, however, we need to be prepared just in case. For instance, when we were pregnant with our twins, we could never have predicted my water breaking at just 28 weeks in the middle of the night. We knew which hospital we were going to use, we knew where it was located, but we hadn't mapped out the most direct route. Our route took us to a "no left turn" which resulted in having to go around the block to get to the hospital, costing us 5 minutes. In an emergency situation, 5 minutes can seem like forever and could negatively affect your medical emergency.

First you need to choose your hospital of preference. In a small town, it isn't hard, but in larger cities you might have over 5 to choose from. Once you pick a hospital, do a dry run to the hospital. Take note of one way streets, stop lights, school zones, etc., anything that might affect how long it takes you to get there. Take time to familiarize yourself with the surroundings and alternate routes in case of road construction. Keep the directions and hospital contact information in your car or in your wallet in case you get lost. Mapping out the quickest route to the hospital is easy and could save you valuable time in the event of an emergency.

If you have a pending trip to the hospital, such as the inevitable birth of your child, mapping out the quickest route to the hospital is even more imperative. However, you shouldn't wait until you know you will be going to the hospital to do a dry run. Don't delay the important task of mapping out the quickest route to the hospital any longer. It could save your life or the life of someone you love.
